Report: Max Korus (BikeReg.com-Cannondale) won the elite men’s road race in a two-up dash to the line on Sunday at the USA Cycling national championships at Fort Gordon, Georgia.Korus collected the stars and stripes in the 168km race just a whisker ahead of Jesse Moore (California Giant) in 4:04:08. Both were given the same time.Timothy Russ (Battley Harley-Davidson) rounded out the podium in third at eight seconds back.A five-man breakaway in the second lap grew to nine riders by the fourth lap, building a gap of a minute before being swept up a lap later. Toward the end of the penultimate lap, a 15-rider breakaway formed up, taking a 30-second lead.Korus, who was working for teammate Alister Ratcliff, covered the break. But the move stuck, and when Moore made the first move, Korus grabbed his wheel and shot past with 300 meters remaining, drilling it through the finish line.“I felt good,” he said. “I felt like there was nothing more I could have done. I’m thankful it turned out to be enough. He’s a great rider. I wasn’t sure I had enough to come around him.”
