RR Nationals 180km. Urban circuit in Edmonton Alberta

7th u23

The circuit had 3 climbs on it with the rest on a windy course which was very favorable to aggressive racing and spectators.

The finish line was on a flat part of the course in a park.

I was aggressive from the gun and tried to make the early break. After a few attempts the move slowly rolled off the front with 2 Spidertech riders in it and a handful of others including some u23 riders. It is to be noted that the race combines u23 riders, elites and pros all racing at the same time but for distinct jerseys. That’s just the way we do it back in Canada. I then try and make it across with Will Routley of Jelly Belly but he drops me when we are 10 seconds to the break. I then decide to keep on rolling strong in chase in the hope that another group comes back onto me. Finally a favorite comes across solo David Veilleux of Kelly. We were a good duo and knew that nothing much could withstand us. I did not know that it would take us 1 hour of chasing to get across. A very painful and well calculated hour permitted us to make it across. After closing the gap, the attacks started again with 30km. ended up in a group sprinting for 5th. After a very valiant effort, I got 7th u23 in a sprint of the main break. I got chopped by a rider in the sprint, but unfortunately did not have the legs to make up for it. Definitely a ride that turned the head of some National team managers. Will Routley takes his first national jersey!

Crit. Nationals in Delta BC

2nd u23

A very dangerous break goes early with David Veilleux of Kelly and Svein tuft of Garmin. They maintained a solid gap and I wait in 10th wheel back in the peloton and united and Orbea try to bring things back together. With these 2 strong rollers up front and the rest of the kelly team shutting it down, Veilleux gets the win. I tried to make it across a couple times but the speed of the course made it nearly impossible to go across gaps solo. I ended up pack sprinting and avoiding the crashes to get 2nd u23 in the pack sprint. This race was part of the Tour de Delta.
